“Samantha asks too many questions”
This was the grand takeaway from my otherwise, lacklustre ‘could do better’ school report by a Religious Education teacher, circa 1988.
I took that criticism, embraced it and decided to train as a journalist.
Actually, I got into one of the best art colleges in the world and trained as a fashion journalist. Since then, I’ve continued to ask questions, and wear things I probably shouldn’t *at my age*.
I wholeheartedly encourage you to do the same.
In the meantime, does this sound familiar?
You’re mostly happy, life could be suckier, but there’s definitely something missing. Something along the lines of:
- your less-than-thrilling job just isn’t doing it for you
- there’s a lack of creativity and intellectual challenge in your life
- you feel there has to be more to life than ‘this’ but you’re not sure what that is or how to go about making it happen
- you’d like to make money on your terms doing something you love, wearing unicorn yoga pants, at home
Whether you’re a 9-5er looking for a side-hustle, a stay-at-home parent dreaming of making bank or a retiree hoping for an encore, I believe we all have something compelling to offer. A unique set of life skills, interests and passions that can help others in a positive way.
So what’s the answer?
We’re entering a new paradigm folks. Peer-to-peer is the future. From education, to work and money, we’re cutting out the middlemen and going direct to our fellow human beings.
The blogging revolution is a big part of this change.
Still think a blog is just an online journal? Does this look like 2005??! Let me put it this way. Ever Google something you don’t know or need help with?
Of course, we all do it, every. single. day.
What most of us fail to realise is our dream answer is probably sitting on a blog somewhere. A blog written by a regular human, just like you.
Put aside all thoughts about diaries and journals. That’s old school. Blogging today is waaaaaay more sophisticated. Blogs are the secret sauce powering websites and businesses across the globe.
Blogging is not only life-changing from a creative perspective, it can be financially rewarding too, and with that brings choice. Choice to live your life the way you want. Who doesn’t want a piece of that?
I want to help you build a blog and business that puts an entrepreneurial fire in your belly and maybe even some money in the bank. I want you to dream bigger than ‘one day‘ and put those dreams into action.
A bit of background
I’m Sam and I’ve spent the last 13 years on a self-taught journey geeking out over blogging, social media and online marketing strategies. With a background in journalism, marketing and media, I was always a bit of a ‘Janet of all trades’, but mistress of none.
A move from the UK to China in 2005 threw me into a pretty foreign and often lonely world. Blogging became my lifeline and an obsession was born.
Three countries later, with a few so-so blogs, one award-winning expat blog, a stint as a freelance writer, Etsy store owner and some local blogging, marketing and social media consultancy gigs under my belt I figured it was time to get back to doing what I love: blogging and helping others to realise their own online potential.
But this time I’m doing it my way. My rules: No frills, no BS or trying to follow trends and buzzwords. I’m totally winging it.
Pretty much all blogging advice is autobiographical. But how do you know it’s going to work for you? The ‘this strategy worked for me, so I’m now an expert and therefore it will work for you‘ mantra is common-place, but as a seasoned blogger I know it doesn’t always jive. I see behind the fluff and claims.
That’s why I’m building this blog from scratch to show you – in real time – what it’s like it’s like to, erm, build a blog from scratch. I’m holding myself accountable. I’ll also be pulling back the curtain on other bloggers’ ‘proven’ strategies and seeing if they hold up to scrutiny.
Ready to be the CEO of You, inc? Let’s do this!
I’ll be sending out a weekly newsletter called The Blog Lab where I’ll be sharing solid, real-time ‘walking the talk’ blogging and growth strategies I’ve picked up over the years along with some new, experimental ones. I’ll get real about what’s working and what isn’t.
Rest assured, The Blog Lab will be a place of useful, actionable strategies you can try at home. I may even hit you up with some actual old-school blogging ‘tips and tricks’ – so over-promised yet so under-delivered these days in favour of thin, sales-funnel fodder.
I’ll also talk candidly about my take on the blogging industry and current trends. Things may even get a little heated from time to time but, rest assured, it will never be dull!
